St. Matthew completed a perfect season, beating St. Patrick 16-6. The game, like each played this year was a close contest. The game was very much in doubt at the beginning of the 4th quarter with the Wildcats clinging to a 10-6 lead. The defense held strong as they have all year holding St. Patrick scoreless while pulling away on the strength of 2 dramatic long swishes from Scott Tezza. Scott finished the game as the leading scorer with 8 points and won this week's Ice Cream Player of the Week. Jake Lavender scored 2 of his 4 points in the final quarter and grabbed 3 rebounds. Christian Chapman was a force again on offense and defense. For the game, Christian had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Conor Brady had 2 points and 4 rebounds and played good defense, stealing a pass at a critical moment in the 2nd half. Hunter Wicker continued his game by game improvement with his second consecutive best performance of the year. Drew Tomich likewise had his second consecutive best performance of the season showing aggressiveness in the offensive zone and on defense. Matthew Curtin was once again the leading rebounder for the Wildcats with 8 rebounds. Matthew had a tremendous game and season. In the games he played, Matthew led the Wildcats in rebounding in all but one contest. Charlie Gantt played outstanding defense, showed aggressiveness on both ends of the court and proved why he has a reputation as a team tough guy. It was a perfect championship season marked by great team effort and spirit in every game. The boys just simply refused to lose and never once panicked in any of the 8 challenging games. The Wildcats were the highest scoring team in the league while remarkably yielding the fewest points. They really learned to play as a team. Many thanks from the coaches to the parents and their wonderful boys for a season we won't forget. Next up: The off season!
