Description
Thank you for registering for our Competitive Placement Days for the Highlanders program.

Please see below for important information about the placement day process, program and club policies for 2018-19:

Parent Information Meeting
We will hold a parent information meeting on Wednesday, May 9 at Veteran’s Hall (Piedmont).

U8 (2011-12): 6:00 - 7:00pm
U9 - U12 (2007-10): 7:00 - 8:00pm
U13 + (2000-06): 8:00 - 9:00pm
(will also have information on FC13 at 8:00-9:00pm meeting)

Each child who tries out for Highlanders should have at least one parent in attendance at this pre-tryout informational meeting to review policies and expectations in the Highlanders programs.

Selection Process
Within 72 hours after tryouts are completed, we will make calls to those who are selected into the program.
After receiving a call, players will have 48 hours to accept the slot, register for the program, and remit the non-refundable registration fee (full fee or first installment).
Players who do not accept their slot, register and remit payment within 48 hours after acceptance onto the team will be deemed to have declined their slot, and the spot will be offered to the next player on the list.
As soon as all spots are confirmed, players who did not make a team will be contacted and encouraged to register for our recreational soccer program.

Team formation
All Highlander and FC13 teams will have a Professional Head Coach from 24-7 UK Soccer Academy, who will work alongside a parent volunteer coach.
Players will be offered a spot on either Purple, White or Slate (Black, White or Green for FC13).
Players may be moved between teams between Fall and Spring, prior to the 2019 tryouts.
PSC reserve the right to decide, with input from 24/7, whether to form 1, 2 or 3 teams at an age group, the league in which each team should participate, and the flighting of each team.

Team meetings will take place on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30 (times and venue TBD)

Team requirements
All teams are required to have a parent volunteer coach, a team manager, and at least one affiliated referee in order to begin practicing.
Teams that do not have all three positions filled will not be permitted to begin practicing.

Referee training
Referee training courses can be found here (https://cnra.gameofficials.net/public/class/classSearch.cfm?classTypeID=2655).
We strongly encourage you to participate in this licensing course and become your team's affiliated referee.
Teams should have more than one affiliated referee.
Every team has a designated number of "referee credits" that must be satisfied during the season (a ref credit is a game refereed).
Teams that do not earn enough "ref credits" during the season will be assessed a fine, which will be funded by the volunteer deposit described below, such that all volunteer deposits for the team will be forfeited.

Volunteer requirements
Piedmont Soccer Club is a volunteer-run organization for our community serving approximately 1300 players.
All players are required to pay a refundable $75 volunteer deposit at the time of registration.
This deposit is refundable only to those families who have fulfilled their volunteer obligations and request a refund of their volunteer deposit at the end of the season.
Volunteer obligations may be fulfilled by serving as parent volunteer coach, team manager, affiliated referee, or member of the Board of Piedmont Soccer Club, or by assisting the club with special events or activities as requested.

Irrespective of the above, volunteer donations are nonrefundable to players on a team that incurs league fines for failing to earn enough "referee credits."

Piedmont Soccer Club – Playing Time Policy
All PSC players, including Highlanders and Recreational teams, will receive a minimum of 50% playing time at each game (and for younger ages, we strive for equal playing time).
Exceptions to this may occur for disciplinary or commitment concerns which would be communicated to the player and to parent(s) of younger players in advance of any impacted game.

2018-2019 season
U.S. soccer have changed the "soccer year" from calendar year to school year, beginning in 2018.
In the past, Highlanders tryouts have been held in late January or early February. Moving forward tryouts (competitive placement days) will be held in May.
Players who are accepted into a Highlanders team in spring 2018, will be guaranteed a place on a Highlanders team through the end of spring 2019.
Players accepted on a team in May, 2018 will register for the year and are required to commit to the team for Fall, 2018 AND Spring, 2019.
Please speak to your pro coach prior to accepting a spot on the team, with any commitment issues and/or other conflicts.

Spring season policy
PSC recognizes that some players participate in multiple sports during the year, with soccer as the primary sport in the fall and baseball/softball/lacrosse/other primary sport in the spring. As such, PSC provides two training sessions a week in the spring but understands that some players may only attend a minimum of one session a week due to other spring commitments. It is also understood that some players may have limited availability to play games in the spring season due to conflicts with other sports.
All other commitments should be communicated to the Professional Coach prior to accepting a spot on the Highlander program, so that expectations can be set.
PSC expects all Highlanders players to make soccer their first priority sport in the fall.

State Cup and tournament policy
Team registration fees DO NOT include the costs of registering for State Cup or any other tournaments.
These additional expenses shall be decided on a team-by-team basis and shall be collected to team treasurer or team manager.
On top of these costs, teams may incur other fees, such as pro coach expenses.
The policy for this and other resources can be found here (http://www.piedmontsoccer.org/resources/coach-manager/competitive-team-manager/)

Game forfeiture policy
Teams are required to submit request for game cancellation (if needed) at least 96 hours before game time. If a game is cancelled within 96 hours of game time, the team is responsible for payment of all fines associated with late cancellation or forfeiture.
All players are expected to update their availability on TeamSnap so that team managers can determine in advance of the 96-hour deadline if a game must be rescheduled.
Players who have not updated availability will be considered unavailable and the team manager/coaches will find a guest player to play in place of them.

Uniform policy
All players are required to have both home (purple) and away (white) uniforms, which can be purchased on soccer.com (do not order until you have confirmed your jersey number, with team manager).
Note that we got new Adidas uniforms in 2017, which will be good for two more years (uniforms will be changed for Fall, 2020)
For practices, players should wear purple practice tee (also available on soccer.com), with black shorts and purple socks.
The turnaround time for uniforms can be pretty slow, so we recommend that you confirm jersey numbers with team managers early and order in May/June, in order to have uniforms in time for the first practices/games.

Positive Coaching Alliance Policy
PSC subscribes to the philosophy of the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), www.positivecoach.org.
PSC sponsors a PCA meeting for coaches and parents each year.
NEW THIS YEAR: Every Highlanders parent is required to attend the 2018 PCA meeting to learn about the power of positive coaching.

Summer Training and Summer Camp
Evening summer training led by Pro Coaches will run from July 16 to August 10 (at no additional cost).
Week-long summer camps (3 hours per day for 5 days, Monday thru Friday, no additional cost) will take place at the end of summer.
Dates, times and locations available here (https://www.piedmontsoccer.org/competitive/practice-and-camp-schedules/).
Players are expected to attend summer training and summer camp and should communicate with their Pro Coach if they are unable to attend.

Fall and Spring Practice Schedule
These will be available at the team meetings in May after teams are formed.
Practices in Fall, will have at least ONE of the two practices in Piedmont, with the aim to get all younger teams with both practices in town for our U8-13 teams.
For Spring, all teams will have both practices at Alameda Point.
We now have a shuttle service that is available to take players from Piedmont to AP (additional fee required. See website for details… https://www.a2pshuttleservice.com)

Thank you for your interest in the PSC Highlanders program. We look forward to seeing you at this year’s Competitive Placement Days.
