Hillview Middle School  >   Hillview 2017-2018 Boys Basketball: Grade 6  >   Main League Page

The Menlo Park Recreation Department and the MPMSL (8th graders only) offer an after school basketball program, open to all Hillview students regardless of experience or perceived ability. Hillview teams at each grade level will be balanced as evenly as possible.

Please note any scheduling conflicts your child may have with practices in the "Special/misc. Information" section of the Participant's Contact Information page. Conflicts need to be specifically identified. For example, if stated "Monday 3:30-5:00 conflict," it is assumed the player is available at 5:01. If more than two full days of conflicts or 4 days of partial conflicts are listed on non-game days, it will be extremely difficult to accommodate. Once teams are selected it is difficult to change. We do our best to accommodate conflicts/requests, but there are no guarantees.

Requests to be placed with particular coaches are NOT allowed (PLEASE DONíT ASK COACHES TO SELECT YOUR CHILDREN). If you want your child to be considered for a particular team, the only way will be if you volunteer to coach and/or coordinate on a team. If there is a true issue you would like to have considered, please contact Mr. Harry Bell, the Hillview Athletic Director, BEFORE WORKOUTS, see dates below.

We can only accommodate up to 10 players per team. Number of teams determined by number of coaches, ie: if we have 35 7th grade boys signed up and have 3 sets of coaches, only the first 30 registrants will be placed on a team (3 teams of 10). The other five will be waitlisted. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ADD TEAMS DURING REGISTRATION.
Registration BEGINS Ocotber 16th, 2017, the DEADLINE is October 25, or whenever the team size limit is reached, whichever occurs first. As part of the registration, all players/parents are required to sign a code of conduct form.

The registration fee is $220.00. There will be additional fees of $15.00 for late registration and $40 for any uniform not returned at the end of the season. NO REFUNDS AFTER OCTOBER 31, 2017.

Scholarships may be available upon request to School Counselors.

NO REFUNDS once AFTER OCTOBER 31, 2017. Please do not sign up if you are not going to play. There is a lot of effort put into making the teams as balanced as possible. Once that is done and a player drops, it can cause major imbalance.

MANDATORY WORKOUTS for team placement. All registering students are expected to participate in these workouts, held in the Hillview Gym as follows:

  • 7th gr girls: Sat, Nov 4 11:30am-12:50pm

  • 8th gr girls: Sun, Nov 5 9:45am-10:45am

  • 6th gr boys: Sat, Nov 4 8:30am-9:50am

  • 6th gr girls: Sat, Nov 4 10:00am-11:20am

  • 8th gr boys: Sun, Nov 5 8:30am-9:30am

Teams will be determined on the day of the workouts.

Begin after/near Thanksgiving. Normally two per week. To be determined by the coach.

Begin before Holiday Break. Season ends mid/late March. Normally one game per week tentatively as follows:
6th Grade Boys - Wednesdays
6th Grade Girls - Tuesdays
7th Grade Boys - Fridays
7th Grade Girls - Thursdays
8th Grade (MPMSL) - Mondays with a couple exceptions
6/7th grades play games in Arrillaga Gym, 8th gr play games at Hillview, La Entrada, Woodside Elementary.
Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed. The basketball program works because it is organized and supported by volunteers. If you would like to be a coach or assistant coach, please indicate so in your child's registration. Coaching commitment includes tryouts, a coaches meeting, two practices per week and one game per week. In recent seasons we're getting more players, but less participation from parents to coach. Experience not necessary. Please help.
