Team Summaries Overlake Notes:
The Overlake Owls and Redmond Lacrosse Club squared off on Overlake’s home field tonight opening the season for both teams. The conditions were wet, but the play was fast and furious.

Overlake jumped out on top fast and led the contest 8-0 at the end of the first quarter. Redmond’s Harrison Stankey scored their only goal of the game with just 32 seconds left in the 2nd period. Overlake led 12-1 at the midway point and finished with a 13-1 victory.

The key to Overlake’s victory started with their stingy defense led by stalwart senior long poles Bryce Remington and Kevin Sample. Redmond’s strong and physical offensive unit had a difficult time finding time or room enough to unleash their shots, but when they did, Overlake goalkeeper Alan Kassis answered saving 75% of the shots put on goal.

Overlake’s offense moved the ball well and seemed in control all evening. Led by face-off magicians Erik Risa and Kinori Rosnow, Overlake controlled 88% of the draws (14 of 16) and dominated time of possession in their offensive end of the field.

The Owl’s potent midfield led by Risa, Curtis Yokoyama and Rosnow (all juniors) moved the ball with speed and precision and found their shifty attackers Frost Cunningham, Colton Umberger and Barrett Jenness who combined for all 13 of the Owl’s goals. (69% assisted)

Sophomore Attack Colton Umberger led all scorers with 5 goals, 1 assist and picked up 2 groundballs. Barrett Jenness followed with 4g, 3a and 4gb’s while Frost Cunningham tallied 4g with 1gb. Midfielders Eric Risa had 3 assists and led all players with 8 ground balls. Curtis Yokoyama had 2 assists with 3 gb’s and Kinori Rosnow sucked up 7 groundballs supporting the Owls tenacious defense.

Overlake faces (2-0) Gig Harbor on Friday night while Redmond meets (0-2) Liberty next Wednesday.
